The Sport of Fencing
Fencing is a chess match and an artform packed into a sport. It is one of only five sports that has been featured in every modern Olympic Games. It is a sport that you can take with you for your entire life.
Why fencing?
Fencing is a sport accessible to people of all ages and sizes. It is a great way to improve or maintain your physical health, while also keeping you mentally sharp, and honing essential reflexes like hand-eye coordination. Also, who doesn't want to make friends through stabbing people?
What is fencing?
Fencing is a its most basic a combat sport with the goal of striking your opponent before they strike you, either by using the tip or the edge of your sword.
As with most things, the longer you participate the more complicated and nuanced the sport can seem. Fencing can have a bigger learning curve than some other sports, but the payoff is awesome and the great instructors at Sebastiani make the journey so much fun.
There's more than one kind of fencing?
Correct! In fencing, there are three disciplines: epee, foil, and saber. Each blade, as they're called, is in itself a slightly different sport, with specific equipment, ways of scoring, and even target area! But we'll go into that when you get to the studio!
It teaches youth confidence, focus, decision-making, and respect.
Although an individual sport, it is conducive to team spirit and selflessness.
It is a full-body workout, helping you develop muscles and improve cardiovascular health.
It is definitely a good conversation starter ;)
